(+/-) 2-Nitroimidazol-1-yl- succinic acid disodium salt
Nitroimidazoles are amongst the most widely used probes to measure hypoxia using a variety of approaches. Briefly, the nitro group depicts a redox potential similar to NAD(P)H and is reduced in vivo under hypoxic conditions to very unstable hydroxylamine or amine derivatives that react easily with intracellular electrophiles, resulting trapped in hypoxic regions.
